A Campground Fit for a Cherokee Princess!

PhotoWelcome, friends! My name is Princess Tammi Hawk and I am here to show you my favorite place to get back to nature.

Cherokee Hills Campground opened in the summer of 2000 to offer avid campers like you and me the chance to escape to the beauty of a virgin forest. Nestled in the hills of scenic Southeast Missouri, the campground sits on land once occupied by my people, the Cherokee, just after they were pushed west on the "Trail of Tears."

Today, Cherokee Hills strives to maintain the beauty and serenity of these surroundings. Far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this campground will both relax and inspire you. Explore the forest and you'll be likely to spot the many woodland animals that have made this area home. If you walk softly and watch carefully, you might catch a white-tail doe with her fawn or even a buck scraping his antlers. Rabbits come hopping through on their way to graze and you're also likely to see possums and those rascally raccoons at work and play. Many squirrels can be found climbing local trees that are also shared by woodpeckers, robins, cardinals, nuthatches, sparrows, quail and wrens. Hummingbirds are frequent visitors to the park's wildflowers and bird feeders. Once settled around your campfire in the evening you'll hear the calls of the whippoorwill and horned & hoot owls, the lonely wail of the coyotes and even the occasional scream of the wild bobcats.

Cherokee Hills offers a selection of necessities at the camp store. Sparkling showers and laundry facilities are available.

PhotoYour furry friends are welcome, but must be on a leash no longer than 10 feet. Make sure you can keep your pets under control. Bug zappers are welcome at the electrical campsites. Daily, weekly and monthly rates are available. Want to make your stay a little longer? There's no maximum limit to how long you can enjoy Cherokee Hills! New sites are being added as weather and time permit, with a planned size of 175 campsites plus shower houses, sewer connections and a Camp Store. This Website, like the campground, is under construction - check back soon to see our progress!

Friends, Cherokee Hills Campground is a year-round destination for those that want to experience camping as it was meant to be.

Come see for yourself!
